Lee Jun-seok, leader of the Reform New Party, announced that he will run for the Gyeonggi Hwaseong-eul district in the April 10 general election.
On the 2nd, Lee said on Facebook, "I will challenge Hwaseong-eul in Dongtan 2 New Town, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, full of future prospects in this general election." Until now, Lee had considered running in Seoul Nowon-byeong, Gyeonggi Hwaseong, and Daegu, but ultimately chose Gyeonggi Hwaseong-eul.
Gyeonggi Hwaseong holds significance for building a joint front of the "semiconductor belt" with fellow Reform New Party lawmakers. He plans to create synergy together with Yang Hyang-ja, the floor leader running in Gyeonggi Yongin-gap, and Lee Won-wook, running in Gyeonggi Hwaseong-jeong.
The Reform New Party evaluates Gyeonggi Hwaseong as a region with relatively many young voters and fitting the party’s keywords of youth, cutting-edge, and science.
Currently, the People Power Party has not nominated a candidate for Hwaseong-eul, while the Democratic Party has strategically nominated Gong Young-woon, a recruited talent and former Hyundai Motor Company president.
