The Jeonbuk Election Commission announced on the 1st that the by-elections and re-elections to be held simultaneously with the 22nd National Assembly election on April 10 have been confirmed in three locations.
According to the Jeonbuk Election Commission, the re-election areas include one provincial council member seat (Namwon-si District 2) and one county council member seat (Jangsu-gun District A), and the by-election area includes one provincial council member seat (Jeonju-si District 3).
These by-elections and re-elections apply to regions where the reasons for holding elections, such as invalidation of election or resignation, were confirmed by the end of last month. Nationwide, there are a total of 45 election districts, including 2 basic local government heads, 17 metropolitan council members, and 26 basic council members.
Civil servants or others who wish to run in the by-elections and re-elections must resign by the 11th, which is 30 days before the election day. The resignation is considered effective at the time the resignation letter is received by the affiliated institution, regardless of whether it is accepted.
The election schedule is the same as that of the simultaneous National Assembly election. Candidate registration applications are accepted on the 21st and 22nd from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
The official election campaign begins on the 28th. Early voting will take place over two days, April 5th and 6th, and voting hours on both the election day and early voting days are from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Voters in the by-election and re-election areas will receive an additional ballot paper for the by-election along with the ballot paper for the 22nd National Assembly election when voting.
Meanwhile, on the 29th, just 41 days before the April 10 general election, the National Assembly finalized the electoral districts. On that day, the ruling and opposition parties reduced the proportional representation seats from 47 to 46, maintaining the 10 Jeonbuk constituencies as they are.
