Al Jazeera and the Associated Press reported on the 29th (local time) that hundreds of casualties occurred due to an explosion presumed to be an airstrike by the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.
According to local hospital officials, the Israeli military conducted an airstrike targeting Palestinian residents gathered for aid distribution in Gaza City, the largest city in the Gaza Strip. As a result, Dr. Jadalla Shafai, head nurse at Al-Shifa Hospital, stated that about 50 people were killed and over 250 injured in the airstrike.
Al Jazeera broadcast scenes of the injured and bodies being loaded into ambulances arriving at Al-Shifa Hospital.
Fares Afana, in charge of ambulances at Kamal Adwan Hospital, said, "When the rescue team arrived at the scene, dozens, even hundreds, were lying on the ground," adding, "There are not enough ambulances to transport all the injured and bodies. Some were transported on donkey carts."
Dr. Muhammad Salah, acting director of Al-Awda Hospital, reported, "So far, we have received three bodies and 90 injured," and added, "There are many injured at the hospital reception and emergency room. The death toll is expected to rise."
He further stated, "The hospital's functions are largely paralyzed due to the power outage. The operating rooms relying on batteries can only operate for a few hours."
