Germany's famous stationery manufacturer Lamy has been sold to Japan's Mitsubishi Pencil.
Lamy announced on the 28th (local time) that it has transferred all its shares to Mitsubishi Pencil.
Lamy stated, "We have found a buyer who will lead the company's future with expertise, experience, affection for the brand, and dedication to the company's location in Germany," adding, "The sale of all company shares has been successfully completed."
Lamy explained that this move is to strengthen its digital writing instruments sector and overseas sales. The brand name and production facilities in Germany will be maintained, and "Made in Germany" will continue to play an important role.
Lamy has been managed by the family for three generations since C. Josef Lamy established a fountain pen factory in Heidelberg, Germany, in 1930. It produces over 8 million writing instruments annually, centered on fountain pens.
Mitsubishi Pencil is well known under the brand name Uni. Founded in 1887, it has a longer history than Lamy and a larger scale with about 2,700 employees worldwide compared to Lamy's approximately 340.
