The total sales of the cultural heritage-related industry in 2022 amounted to 3 trillion KRW.

According to the 'Cultural Heritage Industry Survey' released by the Cultural Heritage Administration on the 29th (as of December 31, 2022), the annual sales of the domestic cultural heritage-related industry in 2022 were approximately 3.1722 trillion KRW, with 8,325 businesses and 45,821 employees.


This survey sampled 1,500 businesses with one or more employees nationwide, classifying each business into four categories: 'Cultural Heritage-related Product Manufacturing,' 'Cultural Heritage Preservation and Management,' 'Cultural Heritage-related Services,' and 'Cultural Heritage Education,' to identify sales and number of employees.


By industry, the business sector mainly engaged in cultural heritage preservation and management recorded sales of 1.452 trillion KRW (45.8%), representing the largest share of total sales.


Next were cultural heritage-related services with 1.1822 trillion KRW (37.3%), cultural heritage education with 313.9 billion KRW (9.9%), and cultural heritage-related product manufacturing with 224.1 billion KRW (7.0%).

Regarding employees by industry, the largest number worked in cultural heritage-related services with 21,171 people (46.2%), followed by cultural heritage education with 12,313 people (26.9%).


In terms of the number of businesses, cultural heritage-related services accounted for the most with 3,747 businesses (45.0%), followed by cultural heritage-related product manufacturers with 1,831 (22.0%), cultural heritage preservation and management businesses with 1,635 (19.6%), and cultural heritage education businesses with 1,112 (13.4%).


This survey is the first case of 'survey statistics' approved by the government, based on data collected using statistical methods by the Cultural Heritage Administration.


With the transition to the National Heritage system starting May 17 this year, the survey name will be changed to 'National Heritage Industry Survey' in the future. The survey results can be downloaded through the National Statistics Portal and the Cultural Heritage Administration website.
