The People Power Party has decided to strategically nominate candidates for Incheon Gyeyang-gu Gap and Changwon Jinhae-gu. For Incheon Gyeyang-gu Gap, they strategically nominated a candidate who has previously been elected in Incheon Gyeyang-gu Eul, expecting a synergy effect with former Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong, who is running in Incheon Gyeyang-gu Eul.
The People Power Party's Nomination Management Committee announced the nomination results for four electoral districts during its 14th meeting on the morning of the 29th. Former lawmaker Choi Won-sik was strategically nominated for Incheon Gyeyang-gu Gap, and former Public Procurement Service head Lee Jong-wook was strategically nominated for Changwon Jinhae-gu. Former lawmaker Choi was elected in the 19th general election as a member of the Democratic United Party (the predecessor of the Democratic Party of Korea) in Incheon Gyeyang-gu Eul. In the 20th general election, he left the Democratic Party of Korea and ran as a candidate for the People's Party in the same district but was defeated. Changwon Jinhae-gu was vacant after incumbent lawmaker Lee Dal-gon announced he would not run.
Jung Young-hwan, chairman of the People Power Party's Nomination Management Committee, said, "Former lawmaker Choi served as a member of the National Assembly for Gyeyang-gu Eul in the past," adding, "We judged that there would be a synergy effect with former Minister Won, who is running in Incheon Gyeyang-gu Eul." Jang Dong-hyuk, secretary-general of the People Power Party, explained, "(Former head Lee Jong-wook) was strategically nominated considering competitiveness with other regions."
Seoul Jungnang-gu Gap and Daejeon Jung-gu were decided as primary election districts. In Seoul Jungnang-gu Gap, former lawmaker Kim Sam-hwa and Cha Bo-kwon, a member of the People’s Integration Committee’s Seoul Regional Committee, will compete. In Daejeon Jung-gu, there will be a three-way primary election among former special committee member of the National Balanced Development Committee Kang Young-hwan, former lawmaker Lee Eun-kwon, who was elected under the Saenuri Party (the predecessor of the People Power Party) in the 20th general election, and adjunct professor Chae Won-gi of the Graduate School of International Legal Management.
