Gu said, "I am grateful for being allowed the path to the general election and will do my best," adding, "I will not forget that I do not act alone." Jang expressed, "I am deeply moved to have been chosen by party members," and "I offer consolation and thanks to the former committee member who competed alongside me."
Gu competed in a three-person primary in Yangcheon Gap, Seoul, against incumbent Jo and former supreme committee member Jung Mi-kyung, but since no candidate received over 50% of the votes, a runoff was held. Jang defeated the incumbent Jeon in Suyeong-gu, Busan. Jeon is the first incumbent to be eliminated among local district incumbents.
Gu said, "I offer respect and thanks to Jo and earnestly hope for her cooperation." Jang also stated, "I plan to humbly visit Jeon to ask for advice and to become one team."
