Seoul City’s plan to build a rainwater pumping station 35 meters next to Daecheong Middle School has drawn attention due to strong opposition from nearby residents.

About 100 residents belonging to the Emergency Countermeasure Committee Against the Installation of the Rainwater Pumping Station at Gaepo District Woosung 1st and 2nd Complexes held a protest on the morning of the 28th in front of Seoul City Hall, opposing the construction of the new rainwater pumping station in front of Neulbeot Park.

The committee stated that “Seoul City claims it plans to block rainwater flowing into the Daechi Station intersection, which frequently floods, in advance at Dogok Station (currently in the detailed design phase for the rainwater pumping station). Considering that over 90% of the rainwater flowing into Daechi Station comes from Huimun High School intersection, Eunma Apartment intersection, Yeongdong 5th Bridge, and Hakyeoul (Setec) intersection, the actual effect is expected to be minimal. We criticize the hasty designation of the site in front of Neulbeot Park and the reckless push forward.”

They also urged, “During the two and a half years of construction, serious problems such as safety on the way to and from school, construction noise, dust, and odor will arise, harming students’ safety and study environment. We demand the withdrawal of the plan to build the rainwater pumping station in front of Neulbeot Park.”
