Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to Operate 5 Semi-Public Wide-Area Bus Routes Including Anseong and Pyeongtaek

The Metropolitan Transportation Committee of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 26th that it will operate five semi-public metropolitan bus routes in the Seoul metropolitan area starting at the end of this month.

Specifically, from the 29th, Anseong route 4402 (Dong-A Broadcasting University~Gangnam Station) will be operated, and from the 1st of next month, Pyeongtaek route M5438 (Pyeongtaek Jije Station~Gangnam Station) will be operated. On the 4th of next month, Uijeongbu route 1205 (Songsan-dong~Sangbong Station), Goyang route 1000 (Daehwa-dong~Sungnyemun), and Namyangju route M2352 (Pyeongnae-dong~Jamsil Station) will begin operation.

The Metropolitan Transportation Committee converted the Goyang, Pyeongtaek, and Namyangju routes from the existing private system to the semi-public system, and newly established the Anseong and Uijeongbu routes as semi-public. The semi-public metropolitan bus system is a project where private transportation companies operate the buses, but the government and local governments hold policy decision authority over operations such as route management, and financially support operating deficits.

The Committee plans to increase the number of semi-public routes from the current 144 to 214 by the end of the year. Starting with the operation of these five routes, in the second half of this year, four routes will be newly established or converted to semi-public: Hwaseong route 4104 (Hyundai Kia Research Institute~Seoul Station), Goyang route M7119 (Siksa-dong~Sungnyemun), Osan route M5532 (Wondong~Sadang Station), and Yongin route M4455 (Chodang Station~Gyodae Station). Additionally, the number of routes will be expanded by selecting new routes by the end of this year.

Kang Hee-up, Chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Committee, said, "The commuting burden of citizens in the Seoul metropolitan area with transportation inconveniences will be reduced, and user convenience is expected to improve," adding, "We plan to continuously strengthen metropolitan transportation services to a level that the public can feel."
