Russian security authorities arrested a dual US-Russian citizen on charges of treason for donating 51.80 dollars (about 69,000 won) to a Ukrainian charity.
On the 20th (local time), foreign media including the US New York Times (NYT) reported that the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) arrested a 33-year-old dual US-Russian citizen, Mr. A, who lived in Los Angeles, on charges of treason in Yekaterinburg, central Russia.
The FSB claimed that Mr. A had provided funds to a Ukrainian organization purchasing weapons used by the Ukrainian military since February 2022, and participated in pro-Ukrainian regime events held in the US, thereby committing treason. It was introduced that Mr. A attended Ural Federal University in Yekaterinburg, central Russia, and later married a US citizen and moved to the US.
The FSB did not disclose Mr. A’s name, but Russian media outlet Mediazona reported that his name is "Ksenia Kabana."

In this regard, Perviy Otdel, a Russian legal organization, stated that the reason for Mr. A’s arrest was his donation of 51.80 dollars (about 69,000 won) to Razom, a Ukrainian charity, on February 24, 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine. Ortel said Mr. A was arrested last month and indicted for treason on the 7th, and if found guilty, he could face up to 20 years in prison.
Meanwhile, Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the US State Department, said that consular assistance was attempted for Mr. A, but Russian authorities have not allowed it.
