This agreement was made to secure research resources by discovering lesser-known cases of the Hwaseong independence movement through cooperation with the National Institute of Korean History and to expand Hwaseong City's veterans affairs policy ahead of its launch as a special city.
Through this agreement, both organizations agreed to cooperate on ▲ joint projects related to independence movement history ▲ development and utilization of historical and cultural content ▲ exchange of human and material resources and establishment of domestic and international networks.
Jung Myung-geun, Mayor of Hwaseong City, said, "I hope this agreement will activate research on Hwaseong's independence movement and serve as an opportunity to expand the value of the Korean independence movement."
Meanwhile, the Hwaseong area was a site of armed resistance against Japanese colonial rule in the past and holds the painful history of the Jeam-ri and Gojuri massacre incidents. The city plans to open the Hwaseong Independence Movement Memorial Hall on April 15 to inherit the historical value and significance of the local independence movement.
