Last year, through the Industrial Complex Open Innovation, 10 demand companies including LG Uplus, Polaris Office, Hite Jinro, MCNEX, and 33 startup companies participated in collaboration. This resulted in 10 technology demonstration contracts and investment attraction worth 9.15 billion KRW. In particular, a base center was established in Seoul to provide a sustainable space for open innovation and to lay the foundation for expansion to industrial complexes nationwide.

Based on these business achievements, this year, the Industrial Complex Open Innovation platform support project will be further strengthened. First, by matching 7 demand companies with more than 35 startups possessing advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, new investment vitality will be injected into the industrial complexes. Based on the know-how of operating the Seoul Open Innovation, new spaces will also be established in non-capital region industrial complexes in connection with the corporation’s remodeling project for closed and idle factories. A global open innovation event linked to the 60th anniversary of industrial complexes is also planned. It is expected to become a venue for global collaboration for major domestic and international companies and startups, and a conference attended by scholars from various countries will also be held.

Lee Sang-hoon, Director of the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, stated, “With the expanded operation of the Industrial Complex Open Innovation project, we will support the full-cycle growth of tenant companies while striving to transform industrial complexes into new industrial spaces where manufacturing and future technologies are connected.”
