The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 20th that it has conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the management status of facilities under the jurisdiction of 59 road management offices nationwide and selected 17 outstanding institutions. Among them, six institutions, including the Korea Expressway Corporation Chungbuk Headquarters (Expressways), were named as the best institutions.
Among the best institutions, the Korea Expressway Corporation Chungbuk Headquarters received excellent evaluations for road pavement. The Ministry of Land's Jeongseon National Land Management Office (General National Roads) scored highly in road occupancy, and Gyeongsangnam-do (Provincial Roads) received high marks for facility cleanliness. Daejeon Metropolitan City (Special and Metropolitan Roads) stood out for drainage facility maintenance, and Suwon City, Gyeonggi Province (City and County Roads) earned positive evaluations for safety facility maintenance. Daejeon Daedeok-gu (District Roads) was effective in road sign management.
The Ministry of Land plans to award victory flags to these six institutions and grant ministerial commendations and reward leave to 23 employees from all award-winning institutions, including those receiving excellence and encouragement awards.
The Ministry designates road maintenance periods twice a year to conduct focused inspections and improvements of road facilities nationwide. This evaluation covered all roads under Article 10 of the Road Act and was conducted from November 24 of last year to January 21 of this year. It assessed the road maintenance results carried out by each road management office, with a central joint evaluation team composed of public and private experts conducting on-site (70%) and administrative (30%) evaluations.
In particular, the Ministry reported that the evaluation focused on whether timely repairs were made to road facilities damaged or degraded due to concentrated summer heavy rains, potholes, and the status of securing snow removal materials and equipment in preparation for winter snowfall.
Joo Jong-wan, Director of the Road Bureau at the Ministry of Land, said, "Thanks to the workers who quietly work on-site, the overall road maintenance condition appeared to be good," and added, "We deeply appreciate the hard work and dedication of frontline workers."
