The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education is accelerating preparations for the Neulbom School, which will be fully implemented in all 304 elementary schools in the Busan area starting in March.
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education conducted a demand survey for Neulbom School from January 30 to February 7, and a total of 21,088 students expressed their desire to participate. The Office plans to accommodate all of them through in-school and community-linked programs.
Among them, 20,140 students (95.5%) will participate in the in-school care Neulbom classrooms and learning-type after-school programs, while 948 students (4.5%) will join community-linked care Neulbom institutions.
Of these, first graders will participate as follows: out of the total capacity of 20,637 students, 56.55% or 11,670 students will attend care Neulbom classrooms, with 8,634 students (41.8%) in classrooms and 3,036 students (14.7%) in learning-type after-school programs.
This is possible due to the Busan Office of Education’s measures to fully accommodate all first-grade applicants this year by significantly expanding care Neulbom facilities since December last year. Based on the demand survey results, the care Neulbom classrooms to be operated include a total of 906 rooms, with 897 rooms inside schools and 9 rooms linked to the community.
The Busan Office of Education will make even more thorough preparations for Neulbom School before the new semester begins to respond to additional demand.
Additionally, the existing after-school programs have been qualitatively improved and diversified by involving direct agencies, community organizations, and universities as operating institutions. This is to provide students with high-quality educational activity opportunities.
All care classrooms are stocked with books provided by the Office of Education and school libraries to foster students’ reading habits, thinking skills, and creativity.
For grades 1 to 3, various learning-type Neulbom programs are operated that combine care with learning through reading and play, as well as sports activities to enhance learning ability. In particular, first graders are provided with two hours of free daily learning-type Neulbom programs.
Programs such as the 3R’s Basic Academic Skills Program, AI PengTalk English Speaking, and Busan Speaking English 1.1.1. are operated to cultivate self-directed learning abilities, and digital electronic devices are provided in care classrooms to support this.
Especially, by utilizing excellent personnel and facilities from community institutions and universities, competitive learning-type Neulbom programs differentiated from private education are developed and distributed.
High-quality and diverse after-school programs with educational elements that are difficult to operate in schools, such as ▲Learning Finance with ChatGPT ▲Artificial Intelligence through Mathematics, are offered.
The Office of Education expects that this will provide diverse and distinctive educational opportunities and also effectively reduce private education expenses.
Ha Yun-su, Superintendent of Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, “In the face of the crisis of regional extinction, we will operate Neulbom School with substance so that Busan children can grow up and stay in Busan, and we will spare no support to ensure that not a single child is left behind.”
