Lee Somi 'Top 10'... Tawattanakit 'First European Win'

‘LPGA rookie’ Lee So-mi made it into the ‘Top 10’.

On the 18th (local time), at Riyadh Golf Club in Saudi Arabia (par 72, 6,754 yards), Lee So-mi finished the 4th round of the Ladies European Tour (LET) Aramco Ladies International (total prize money $5 million) with a 2-under-par, tying for 7th place (6-under-par 282 strokes). Starting from a tie for 11th, Lee recorded 3 birdies and 1 bogey. After accumulating 5 wins on the Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour, she earned her LPGA Tour card by finishing tied for 2nd in the qualifying (Q) series last December.

Patty Tavatanakit (Thailand) swept up 1 eagle and 6 birdies (1 bogey) to claim a commanding victory by 7 strokes (18-under-par 270 strokes). She earned her first career win on the European stage and received a winner’s prize of $750,000 (approximately 1 billion KRW). Tavatanakit is a strong player who won the Rookie of the Year award after winning the 2021 LPGA Tour major Chevron Championship.

Esther Henseleit (Germany) finished 2nd (11-under-par 277 strokes), while Minami Katsu (Japan) and Charley Hull (England) tied for 3rd (9-under-par 279 strokes). For Korea, Yang Hee-young, who was tied for 5th the previous day, lost 4 strokes and dropped to a tie for 18th (2-under-par 286 strokes). Kim Min-byeol tied for 22nd (1-under-par 287 strokes), Kim Jae-hee tied for 29th (even par 288 strokes), Sung Yu-jin and Hwang Jeong-mi tied for 35th (1-over-par 289 strokes), Shin Ji-ae tied for 60th (9-over-par 297 strokes), and Hong Jeong-min and Kim Min-seon finished tied for 62nd (10-over-par 298 strokes). The Aramco Ladies International is hosted by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). Offering prize money comparable to LPGA Tour major tournaments, it attracted many top-level players.
