The People Power Party announced on the 18th that it will strengthen support for soldiers by establishing a comprehensive control tower for the army, navy, and air force to respond to military safety accidents, and by fully implementing a military injury insurance system.
The party's Policy Development Headquarters announced the 'Safe Defense with the People' pledge for the April 10 general election at the National Assembly on the same day.
First, the People Power Party plans to establish a 'Military Comprehensive Safety Center' to oversee military safety-related tasks. This control tower will systematically manage the safety departments currently operated separately by the army, navy, and air force, enabling rapid response to safety accidents, efficiently preparing safety measures, and fostering military safety professionals.
The party also plans to unify and fully implement the military injury insurance system, which is currently individually operated by some local governments, at the central government level. Additionally, to support the mental health of military personnel, it will reinforce staffing and expand the service system of the Mental Health Welfare Centers currently operating in five regional zones, thereby expanding infrastructure.
Furthermore, the People Power Party intends to raise the daily meal allowance for military personnel from 13,000 won to 15,000 won and expand the outsourcing of military meals to the private sector. The duty allowance for military officials, currently 20,000 won on weekdays and 40,000 won on holidays, will be increased by 10,000 won and 20,000 won respectively, and measures to provide housing facilities for military officials working in remote areas will also be pursued.
In addition, considering the frequent relocations of professional soldiers, the party plans to expand moving freight support for junior officers and prioritize support for children of military couples in after-school Neulbom schools.
The People Power Party also promised to process amendments to the State Compensation Act to allow bereaved families of soldiers who died in action or in the line of duty to claim compensation from the state.
