Starting from the 19th, CU will apply the Producer Real-Name System to lunch boxes and expand it to all ready-to-eat meal items such as kimbap, rice balls, hamburgers, and sandwiches within the first half of the year. While the names of the persons responsible for production are found on the back or bottom of general manufactured foods like ramen and snacks, this system had not been applied to convenience store ready-to-eat meals until now.

CU explained that the Producer Real-Name System was introduced to enhance the quality and safety of ready-to-eat meals, which have high demand due to 'lunchflation' (lunch + inflation), and to provide transparent information so that customers can consume with confidence.

The persons whose real names will be listed on the ready-to-eat meal packages are selected as regular core staff from nine manufacturers, including production supervisors, quality managers, and shipping personnel. Their names will be printed on the barcode labels of the ready-to-eat meals. CU has also been piloting electronic shelf labels (ELS) in some stores since the end of last year. The electronic shelf labels display not only the price and ingredients of freshly prepared foods like piece chicken but also the saleable time, which can increase consumer trust in the products.

Jung Jae-hyun, head of BGF Retail's Ready-to-Eat Food Team, said, "By being the first in the industry to introduce the Producer Real-Name System for ready-to-eat meals, CU has raised the sense of responsibility in the production process and provided customers with clear product information."
