Reforming Public Service Discipline! ... Pohang City Audit Officer Appoints External Expert

On the 16th, Pohang City announced Hwang Tae-il (60), an outsider from the public sector, as the successful candidate for the open position of Audit Officer.

Hwang Tae-il, a native of Pohang, was commissioned as a police officer in 1989 and has served in various roles including Head of Investigation at Pohang Nambu Police Station, Head of Administration at Yeongdeok Police Station, and Deputy Inspector at the Inspection and Audit Office of Seodaemun Police Station in Seoul, gaining extensive expertise in investigation and audit fields.

This open recruitment for the Audit Officer position is part of Pohang City's high-intensity public service reform measures initiated last year. The recruitment process began in November and involved strict and transparent evaluations followed by approval from the personnel committee to select the successful candidate.

Pohang City has requested a background check and, if no irregularities or misconduct are found, plans to appoint the Audit Officer in early March.

The newly appointed Audit Officer will be responsible for establishing, coordinating, and managing audit plans, preventing corruption, and developing measures to prevent misconduct across all areas of Pohang City for a period of two years from the date of appointment.

Park Jae-gwan, Director of the Autonomous Administration Office, stated, “By appointing an external candidate as Audit Officer, we expect to more fairly carry out audit tasks that break down unreasonable practices within the public service and gain citizens’ trust.” He added, “We will firmly establish public service discipline and strive to foster a culture of integrity to further enhance the institution’s integrity.”
