Lee Seong-hae, former chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Committee (Daegwangwi), has been appointed as the new chairman of the Korea Rail Network Authority.
According to industry sources on the 16th, the Ministry of Personnel Management notified the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Lee's personnel appointment the day before. His term will be three years, from the 19th of this month to February 18, 2027.
The new chairman graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in civil engineering and from the University of Leeds in the UK with a degree in transportation engineering. He entered public service in 1991 after passing the 27th technical civil service examination. He subsequently served as head of the Busan Regional Land Management Office, director of the Construction Policy Bureau, and deputy head of the Saemangeum Development Agency at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. He served as chairman of Daegwangwi for one year starting in July 2022.
He is regarded as an expert in the land and transportation sector and is evaluated as an administrator who performs his duties based on excellent work execution skills and organizational management abilities.
