"She Said Yes"... Australian Prime Minister Engaged to Partner 15 Years Younger on Valentine's Day

Developed into a Romantic Relationship in 2021

Anthony Albanese (60), the Prime Minister of Australia, announced his engagement to his partner on Valentine's Day. He is the first Australian Prime Minister in history to get engaged while in office.

On the 15th, Prime Minister Albanese posted a photo with his partner Jodie Haydon (45) on his X (formerly Twitter) account, stating, "She said yes." In the photo, an engagement ring is visible on the fourth finger of Haydon's left hand. The post received congratulatory messages in the comments from Penny Wong, Australia's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Christopher Luxon, Prime Minister of New Zealand, and others.

Prime Minister Albanese and Haydon released a joint statement saying, "We are very happy and excited to share this news and look forward to spending the rest of our lives together," adding, "We feel truly lucky to have met each other."

Albanese will go down in Australian history as the first Prime Minister to become engaged during his term. Local Australian media reported that the two first met at an event in Melbourne in 2020 and developed a romantic relationship the following year.

Haydon, Albanese's partner, has worked in the financial industry as a superannuation specialist. She currently serves as a female executive at the New South Wales (NSW) Public Service Commission. She resides at the Prime Minister's official residence and often accompanies the Prime Minister on overseas visits.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Albanese married Carmel Tebbutt (60), former Deputy Premier of NSW, in 2000 but divorced in 2019. The couple has a 23-year-old son named Nathan.
