The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport selected the sites for the '2024 Digital Logistics Service Demonstration Project' on the 14th to resolve logistics issues faced by local communities in vulnerable logistics areas and to innovate the logistics system.

The Digital Logistics Service Demonstration Project has been promoted since 2021 to improve the existing logistics system by applying various smart technologies across all sectors of the logistics industry, including transportation, storage, and cargo handling.

To select the demonstration project sites for 2024, a nationwide public contest was held for local governments over two months (November 2023 to January 2024). An evaluation committee composed of experts from various fields assessed the project plans submitted by a total of 10 local governments and finally selected five projects with excellent content and expected ripple effects.

The selected local governments will receive national funding of 500 million to 1.6 billion KRW (average 800 million KRW) per project, with a 50% support rate, depending on the scale of the applied project, to introduce smart logistics services needed by the region.

Since 2021, through the Digital Logistics Service Demonstration Project, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has provided opportunities to demonstrate innovative ideas and technologies such as parcel and small business joint logistics system demonstrations, and unmanned transportation demonstrations using advanced equipment like drones and robots (success rates: drone 95.7%, robot 99.6%), thereby laying the foundation for the transition to a smart logistics system.

Kim Geun-oh, Director of the Logistics Policy Division at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "If various innovative technologies are activated through the Digital Logistics Service Demonstration Project, logistics problems in vulnerable areas will be improved, and the level of logistics services will be enhanced."
