Integrated Support for Family, School, and Community

Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that it has been uniquely selected within Jeollanam-do for the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family’s ‘Support Project for Isolated and Reclusive Youth at Risk,’ and will begin integrated customized support to help the target individuals reintegrate into society and enter social life.

The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family conducted a public contest to establish a one-stop help center for isolated and reclusive youth in crisis, selecting 11 local governments nationwide including Yeosu City. The city secured 65 million KRW in national funding.

Accordingly, Yeosu City will invest a total project budget of 93 million KRW over 12 months starting from March at the Out-of-School Youth Support Center to promote a ‘One-Stop Package Support Project’ that helps reclusive and isolated out-of-school youth recover psychological and social relationships early and grow healthily.

The center will assign dedicated personnel to identify isolated and reclusive youth who are struggling due to social disconnection after dropping out of school, and provide customized home visit counseling, learning support, healing assistance, and family self-help meetings, offering integrated support within families, schools, and the local community.

A city official stated, “If issues of reclusion and isolation that begin during adolescence are neglected, they can lead to problems in young adulthood and middle age, affecting the entire lifespan. This project aims to intervene proactively during adolescence to prevent long-term isolation and reclusion, and we will actively support all youth to grow into healthy members of the local community.”
