World Government Summit Opens... Sam Altman and Jenson Huang to Meet

The 2024 World Government Summit (WGS) opened on the 12th (local time) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).


Held annually since 2013, this event marks its 11th edition this year. The summit will take place over three days until the 14th. It was launched through cooperation between the UAE government and the private sector with the aim of addressing pressing global challenges and seeking a better future for humanity.


Under the slogan "Shaping Future Governments," this year's event has invited 25 heads of state and over 300 ministers from various countries. Keynote speakers include Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India; Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, President of T?rkiye; Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar; and Mohammed Shia Al Sudani, Prime Minister of Iraq.


The most anticipated attendees this year are Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, and Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA. They will participate in a dialogue program focused on the future of artificial intelligence (AI). Omar Sultan Al Olama, UAE Minister of AI and Digital Economy, will moderate the discussion with these business leaders.


The WGS organizing committee also announced that 100 AI experts from leading global companies such as Meta, SandboxAQ, and Beyond Limits will attend. Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA); Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF); Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO); and Klaus Schwab, Chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF, Davos Forum) have also been invited.


Over the three days, more than 200 senior government and corporate officials will attend various sessions, and 23 ministerial and representative-level meetings will be held. From Korea, Go Jin, Chairperson of the Digital Platform Government Committee, will participate in a panel discussion. Delegations from 120 governments and representatives from 85 international and regional organizations will attend, totaling around 4,000 participants.


On the first day, the 12th, forums will be held on topics such as the future of work, the future of mobility, and climate action through fostering sustainable finance. On the 13th, forums and roundtables will focus on AI-enabled futures, intergovernmental experience exchange, and government services. On the final day, the 14th, discussions will center on strategies for sustainable investment in emerging markets.
