On the afternoon of the third day of the holiday, the 11th, traffic congestion continues on highways in various locations due to vehicles heading home.
According to the Korea Expressway Corporation, as of 5 p.m. that day, the estimated travel times from major cities nationwide to the Seoul tollgate are: Busan 6 hours 20 minutes, Ulsan 5 hours 50 minutes, Mokpo 5 hours 30 minutes, Gwangju and Daegu 5 hours 20 minutes, Gangneung 3 hours 40 minutes, and Daejeon 3 hours 20 minutes.
Conversely, the estimated travel times from the Seoul tollgate to major cities nationwide are: Busan 4 hours 30 minutes, Ulsan 4 hours 10 minutes, Mokpo 3 hours 40 minutes, Daegu 3 hours 30 minutes, Gwangju 3 hours 20 minutes, Gangneung 2 hours 50 minutes, and Daejeon 1 hour 31 minutes, indicating smooth traffic flow.
The Expressway Corporation predicts that congestion in the homebound direction will ease around 2 to 3 a.m. the next day, and in the outbound direction around 7 to 8 p.m. that day.
As of 5 p.m., on the Seoul-bound side of the Gyeongbu Expressway, traffic is congested in sections including near Cheongju Junction to near Oksan for 17 km, near Cheonan to Anseong for 16 km, and near Biryong Junction to near Daejeon for 10 km.
On the Seoul-bound side of the Seohaean Expressway, vehicles are moving slowly in sections such as near Dangjin Junction to near Seohaedaegyo Bridge for 27 km, near Donggunsan to Dongseocheon Junction for 12 km, near Goindol Rest Area to near Julpo for 11 km, and near Balan to Balan for 8 km.
On the Hanam-bound side of the Jungbu Expressway, vehicles are repeatedly stopping and going in sections including near Iljuk to Moga for 11 km, Namyi Junction to near Seocheongju for 8 km, and near Jungbu 3 Tunnel to near Jungbu 1 Tunnel for 6 km.
On the Incheon-bound side of the Yeongdong Expressway, congestion occurs in sections such as Deokpyeong to Yongin for 16 km and near Hoengseong Rest Area to Saemal for 9 km. On the Guri-bound side of the Capital Region First Circular Expressway, congestion is seen in sections including Bulamsan Tunnel to Sapaesan Tunnel for 11 km and Nooji Junction to Songnae for 9 km.
The Expressway Corporation expects the nationwide traffic volume for the day to be 5.15 million vehicles. It is forecasted that 370,000 vehicles will move from the metropolitan area to local regions, and 480,000 vehicles will move from local regions to the metropolitan area.
