Bokcheon Museum, affiliated with Busan Museum, will temporarily open the Bokcheondong Ancient Tombs, Historic Site No. 273, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on February 18, and hold the “Receive Blessings (龍)” event, where participants make and fly lucky kites.
To welcome the New Year of Gapjin (甲辰) 2024, Bokcheon Museum has prepared an experience session for families to ward off misfortune and pray for blessings together.
Participants will create kites with a kite-making artisan during the event and then fly the kites they made at the Bokcheondong Ancient Tombs.
Under the guidance of Bae Mu-sam, Busan Intangible Cultural Property No. 21 and a master kite maker, participants will craft creative kites.
A Ji-yeonjang (紙鳶匠) is an artisan skilled in making Dongnae kites, a traditional kite of the Busan region, designated as a Busan Intangible Cultural Property on January 1, 2014.
Especially, the event will open the Bokcheondong Ancient Tombs, which are usually only accessible via walking trails, allowing participants to enjoy kite flying in the city, which is otherwise difficult to experience. It will be a great opportunity for families to create various creative kites together and have a harmonious time.
Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through the Bokcheon Museum website from February 13 to 15. Forty teams of families with kindergarten and elementary school children can participate, and the event is free of charge.
Choi Jeong-hye, director of Bokcheon Museum, said, “We hope families will enjoy flying the kites they made themselves in the open tomb area away from the busy city and receive the good energy of the Bokcheondong Ancient Tombs. Our museum will continue to strive to reach out to citizens, and we ask for your great interest.”
