Previously, he has issued strong condemnation statements whenever North Korea conducted missile launches or military satellite launch tests using ballistic missile technology, stating that these actions violate UNSC resolutions.
Meanwhile, at the same press conference, Secretary-General Guterres addressed allegations that many staff members of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) were involved with the Palestinian armed group Hamas, stating that if Israel provides additional information, immediate responsive measures will be taken. UNRWA is a UN relief agency supporting Palestinian refugees.
Earlier, Israel raised suspicions that 12 UNRWA staff members were involved in Hamas's surprise attack on Israel on October 7 last year. The UN dismissed nine of those whose identities were confirmed and launched an investigation into the facts. The United States and major European countries have temporarily suspended financial support to UNRWA.
However, Secretary-General Guterres appealed not to halt support, stating, "UNRWA is a cornerstone for all humanitarian aid within the Gaza Strip."
