Last year, the reemployment rate during the unemployment benefit period exceeded 30% for the first time since 2016.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 7th that the reemployment rate, which is the percentage of people who succeeded in finding a job while receiving unemployment benefits last year, recorded 30.3%. A reemployment rate in the 30% range is the first in seven years since 2016 (33.1%).

The reemployment rate of beneficiaries peaked at 38.8% in 2008 and then showed a downward trend in the 20% range. The reemployment rate, which had maintained the 30% range until 2016, fell to the 20% range in 2017. Just before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019, the reemployment rate recorded an all-time low of 25.8%.

The increase in the reemployment rate was influenced by the active job-seeking activities of unemployment benefit recipients. Looking at the proportion of job-seeking activities during the probation period of beneficiaries last year, activities directly aimed at finding jobs such as job applications, interviews, and recruitment events increased significantly from 42.7% in 2022 to 59.1%.

The government plans to make further efforts to enhance the substance of reemployment support, including providing customized employment support services and strengthening the capabilities of unemployment recognition officers, while reforming the unemployment benefit system to promote labor market participation this year.

Lee Seong-hee, Vice Minister of Employment, stated, "This year, we will focus more on strengthening reemployment support for beneficiaries linked with employment services, fundamentally reform the unemployment benefit system to promote beneficiaries' participation in the labor market, and enhance the sustainability of the system."
