President Yoon Suk-yeol will appear on KBS at 10 p.m. on the 7th to hold a New Year's interview, directly expressing his stance on national issues and the controversy surrounding his wife Kim Geon-hee's luxury handbag.

According to the schedule released on KBS's website, President Yoon's New Year's interview will be broadcast at 10 p.m. on the 7th under the title "KBS Special Interview: Visiting the Presidential Office." The president conducted a pre-recording related to this on the 4th at the Yongsan Presidential Office.

The interview was hosted by KBS anchor Park Jang-beom, recorded for about two hours on the 4th, and the broadcast on the 7th will be conducted in an interview format lasting 100 minutes.

President Yoon did not hold a press conference for about a year and a half after his 100-day press conference on August 17, 2022. At the beginning of last year, he revealed his plans for national governance through an exclusive interview with Chosun Ilbo.

After much deliberation, President Yoon is also known to have explained his position on the controversy over Kim Geon-hee's receipt of luxury handbags ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday. However, within the ruling party, it is expected that rather than a direct apology regarding the Kim Geon-hee issue, a message expressing regret for causing concern to the public will be delivered.

In this interview, President Yoon is expected to share reflections on last year's national governance and reveal the direction for various policies mentioned during the nine public discussions on people’s livelihoods held since the beginning of this year. He is also reported to mention the progress of the three major reforms, including labor, education, and pensions, as well as this year's national governance plans.

On the same day at 10 a.m., a discussion hosted by Han Dong-hoon, the Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, at the Kwanhun Club is scheduled, making it a point of interest to see how the party and government, which had a direct clash over the Kim Geon-hee controversy, have reconciled their differences.
