People Power Party's Choi Seung-jae Declares Candidacy for Gwangmyeong Gap, Gyeonggi... "Pioneering Difficult Areas with Loyalty Before Personal Gain"

Choi Seung-jae, a member of the People Power Party, announced on the 3rd that he will run for the Gwangmyeong Gap constituency in Gyeonggi Province in the April 10 general election.

On the same day, Choi said on Facebook, "With the spirit of putting the nation before oneself, I will embark on a new journey to pioneer difficult areas where the party directs, for the party's victory."

He added, "I agree with the party's policy to allocate resources appropriately to lead the victory in the Seoul metropolitan area, the biggest battleground in the general election," and said, "To continue politics for the socially vulnerable, I will leave Mapo Gap and start a new challenge in Gwangmyeong Gap."

Choi said, "In choosing a new path, I have willingly accepted the party's request to go to Gwangmyeong Gap," and added, "I will judge the Democratic Party, which is obsessed with obstructing people’s livelihoods and engaging in 'fake livelihood' politics in Gwangmyeong Gap."

Choi, the founding president of the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business, entered the National Assembly as a proportional representative in the 21st general election. He had been preparing to run for Seoul Mapo Gap for two years but has now shifted to running in Gwangmyeong Gap.

Gwangmyeong Gap is currently the constituency of Democratic Party lawmaker Im Oh-kyung. Mapo Gap, where four current and former lawmakers once competed within the ruling party, appears to have settled into a two-way race between proportional representative lawmaker Jo Jung-hoon and former Saenuri Party lawmaker Shin Ji-ho, as lawmaker Lee Yong-ho and Choi changed their constituencies. Lee Yong-ho declared his candidacy for Seodaemun Gap the day before.
