Han Dong-hoon, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, visited a traditional market in Guri, Gyeonggi Province ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, communicating with citizens by buying hotteok for middle school students in their teens.

On the 2nd, Chairman Han spent about 50 minutes from 3 p.m. touring the Guri Traditional Market, meeting merchants and residents. Guri, Gyeonggi Province, is classified as a tough district within the ruling party, and efforts are being made to reclaim it in the upcoming general election in April.

According to the People Power Party on that day, it is estimated that about 1,200 people gathered at the Guri Traditional Market to see Chairman Han. Chairman Han carried a shopping basket while buying and eating food, and a citizen personally wrapped a red scarf around his neck.

Chairman Han also called over a group of middle school students following him and bought hotteok for them while having a conversation. It is known that among these students was the grandson of a merchant selling sesame oil at the market.

When Chairman Han asked, "Did you skip class to come here?" the students replied, "It's vacation, so we are just hanging out." When Chairman Han bought hotteok for them, the students shouted, "Han Dong-hoon fighting," and "You’re handsome," bringing smiles.

After visiting the market, Chairman Han met with reporters and said, "The economy is difficult ahead of the Lunar New Year, so I came to talk with those working at the traditional market, which is directly connected to the livelihoods of ordinary households, and with those who came here." He added, "Our People Power Party wants to be chosen, loved, and supported by the people here."

Regarding prices, he said, "Each amount is very expensive," and added, "It seems to be felt more strongly by those here. Although (high prices) is a global phenomenon, I think we need to work harder on our role (to stabilize prices)."

He stated, "We are preparing various pledges, such as doubling the amount of gift certificates that can be used at traditional markets," and said, "Although it may be insufficient, we will calmly explain those pledges and implement policies that help the ordinary people and merchants here."

Regarding Guri City's push for incorporation into Seoul, he explained, "The purpose of renovating Gyeonggi Province’s administrative districts is to fully respect the needs of each region’s citizens and to proceed effectively, actively, and swiftly," adding, "In that spirit, Guri is included as one of them."
