Former President Moon Jae-in recommended a book related to Dokdo, stating, "We can truly be called the owners when we know more about Dokdo, nurture it with more love, and protect it." This appears to be an indirect criticism of the recent controversies surrounding Dokdo notation under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration.
On the 2nd, former President Moon emphasized on his social networking service (SNS) Facebook, "It is clear that Dokdo is our land, but we can truly be called the owners when we know more about Dokdo, nurture it with more love, and protect it."
This was written while recommending the book “Dokdo, Do You Want to Come to the Sea?” published by the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology. He wrote, "Dokdo, where the Dokdo Guard is stationed and residents live, cannot be a disputed area despite Japan's unreasonable claims."
Since former President Moon has raised indirect criticisms through book recommendations in the past, this book recommendation also seems to follow the same approach. Recently, the Yoon Suk-yeol administration repeatedly made errors in Dokdo notation, putting the perception of Dokdo's sovereignty under scrutiny.
Recently, on the overseas safety travel site operated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dokdo was labeled as a "Korean diplomatic mission abroad." The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained, "There was a technical error where the icon linking to the Dokdo homepage and the icon linking to the overseas diplomatic mission homepage appeared in the same form, causing the incorrect display on the screen," and took corrective action.
At the end of last year, there was controversy as Dokdo was described as a "disputed area" in the basic textbook for mental power education published by the Ministry of National Defense. At that time, Minister of National Defense Shin Won-sik explained, "The expression 'Dokdo sovereignty dispute' recorded on SNS during my time as a member of the National Assembly was written to mean that Japan is attempting a territorial dispute."
