The South Korean national football team achieved a dramatic comeback victory against Australia to advance to the semifinals of the 2023 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Qatar Asian Cup. After two consecutive matches of extended extra time battles, they secured a valuable win. Additionally, they created a drama by scoring equalizing goals in stoppage time of the second half in two consecutive games when defeat seemed imminent.

Led by coach J?rgen Klinsmann, the South Korean national football team won 2-1 in a quarterfinal match against Australia held on the 3rd (Korean time) at Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah, Qatar.

They conceded first at the 42nd minute of the first half but equalized with a penalty kick by Hwang Hee-chan in the 6th minute of stoppage time in the second half, followed by Son Heung-min’s winning goal in the 14th minute of extra time.

Captain Son Heung-min demonstrated his true value. In stoppage time of the second half, Son maneuvered through the opposing defense inside the penalty box, drawing a foul that led to Hwang Hee-chan’s penalty kick equalizer. In extra time, Son scored the winning goal from a free-kick opportunity earned by Hwang Hee-chan.

South Korea will face Jordan in the semifinals at midnight on the 7th. South Korea and Jordan were in the same Group E in this tournament, and their group stage match ended in a 2-2 draw.
