Yoon Likely to Hold New Year Interview with KBS on 7th... Replacing Press Conference

Likely to Explain 3rd Year National Administration Direction and Controversies Surrounding Kim Geon-hee

President Yoon Suk-yeol is expected to reveal his New Year political agenda through an exclusive interview with a media outlet on the 7th.

According to the presidential office on the 2nd, President Yoon is considering explaining this year's government direction through a New Year interview conducted in advance.

It is reported that the interview will likely be pre-recorded and broadcasted through KBS.

In the interview, President Yoon is expected to introduce the direction of government administration in his third year in office, as well as the government's plans for various reform tasks.

He is also expected to address the controversy surrounding First Lady Kim Geon-hee's luxury handbag issue.

Some speculate that President Yoon may mention the controversy involving the First Lady and propose institutional measures such as establishing a second secretariat or appointing a special inspector.

Earlier, President Yoon considered communication methods such as a New Year press conference or a 'kimchi stew meal' with the press corps, but reportedly decided on an exclusive interview with a media outlet to maximize message delivery effectiveness.

Former President Moon Jae-in also held an interview with a KBS journalist in 2019 and had a conversation with former JTBC president Sohn Suk-hee in 2022 before leaving office.

Since holding a 100-day press conference on August 17, 2022, President Yoon has not held any press conferences. Last year, he explained his government administration plans through a New Year interview with Chosun Ilbo.
