Ministry of Health and Welfare to Train 8,100 Skilled Nurses in Essential Medical Fields Including Intensive Care Units

'Support for Training Essential Medical Nurses' 84 General Hospitals Selected
239 Dedicated Training Nurses Supported

On the 1st, the Ministry of Health and Welfare announced that it has selected 84 medical institutions and 239 dedicated education nurses in the call for support institutions for the newly launched 'Essential Medical Nurse Training Support Project' starting this year to train skilled nurses.

This project supports the labor costs of dedicated education nurses responsible for training nurses working in essential medical fields such as intensive care units, operating rooms, emergency rooms, and intensive treatment rooms (stroke and high-risk pregnant women), aiming to cultivate skilled nurses in essential medical areas.

The support targets general hospitals operating wards in essential medical fields such as intensive care units.

This year, 41 institutions located in the metropolitan area and 43 institutions outside the metropolitan area, totaling 84 institutions, were selected.

The 239 dedicated education nurses affiliated with the 84 medical institutions plan to provide systematic education to about 8,100 nurses working in the intensive care units, operating rooms, emergency rooms, and intensive treatment rooms of their respective medical institutions to train them into skilled nurses.

Education will also be conducted using the standard education programs for intensive care patients (adult, pediatric) and emergency patients (adult, pediatric), developed last year with a national budget investment of 1 billion KRW. Additionally, education and consulting will be provided to participating medical institutions to ensure the project settles well in its early stages.

Meanwhile, in general wards, integrated nursing and caregiving service wards and private medical institutions are also supported with dedicated education nurses using health insurance finances.

Jung Kyung-sil, Director of Health and Medical Policy, stated, "It is expected to contribute to strengthening essential medical care by training skilled nurses working in intensive care units, where patient severity is high, work difficulty is high, and rapid response is required."
