원본보기 아이콘At the meeting, about 14 participants including funeral hall officials, reusable container representatives, and related departments of Pohang City’s funeral halls discussed reducing the use of disposable items and transitioning to reusable containers at funeral halls.
Pohang City plans to reduce waste emissions, contribute to carbon neutrality, and foster an eco-friendly funeral culture by switching from disposable items such as cups, spoons, plates, and containers commonly used at funeral halls to reusable containers.
Park Sang-geun, Director of the Resource Circulation Division, stated, “The use of reusable containers at funeral halls is desirable in terms of creating an eco-friendly funeral culture, and we will strive to reduce waste emissions and contribute to a Korean-style (K) circular economy for carbon neutrality.”
There are nine funeral halls in Pohang City, with an average daily number of mourners estimated at about 3,600, and the annual use of disposable items is estimated to exceed 840,000 units.
