On the 31st, Samsung Electronics announced that its consolidated sales for the fourth quarter of last year (October to December) reached 67.7799 trillion KRW, and operating profit was 2.8247 trillion KRW. Sales decreased by 3.81% and operating profit fell by 34.4% compared to the same period last year.
Annual sales were 258.9355 trillion KRW, and operating profit was 6.567 trillion KRW, down 14.33% and 84.86% respectively from the previous year. This is the first time in 15 years since the global financial crisis in 2008 (631.9 billion KRW) that Samsung Electronics’ annual operating profit has fallen below 10 trillion KRW.

원본보기 아이콘Operating profit in the fourth quarter of last year increased by 391.1 billion KRW (16.07%) from the previous quarter to 2.8247 trillion KRW as the deficit in the semiconductor (DS) division narrowed.
The DS division recorded sales of 21.69 trillion KRW and an operating loss of 2.18 trillion KRW. The loss was reduced by 1.57 trillion KRW (41.9%) compared to the third quarter (3.75 trillion KRW). Quarterly losses decreased from 4.58 trillion KRW in the first quarter, 4.36 trillion KRW in the second quarter, 3.75 trillion KRW in the third quarter, to 2.18 trillion KRW in the fourth quarter. The cumulative annual loss was 14.87 trillion KRW.
The DX division, which handles home appliances and mobile businesses, posted sales of 39.55 trillion KRW and operating profit of 2.62 trillion KRW. The Display (SDC) division recorded an operating profit of 2.01 trillion KRW, up 70 billion KRW (3.6%) from the third quarter (1.94 trillion KRW). Harman, the automotive electronics affiliate, posted an operating profit of 340 billion KRW. This was a 110 billion KRW (24.4%) decrease compared to the third quarter (450 billion KRW), which was the highest quarterly performance ever.
