The Ministry of Science and ICT (Minister Lee Jong-ho) announced on the 29th that it has designated 35 corporate research institutes as excellent corporate research institutes and held a certificate awarding ceremony. Three research institutes expected to achieve global growth were pilot-designated as the best corporate research institutes.
The 'Excellent Corporate Research Institute Designation System' was introduced to drive the qualitative growth of corporate research institutes, which form the foundation of corporate R&D, and to foster leading models that other corporate research institutes can benchmark. To date, a total of 286 excellent corporate research institutes have been designated.
In the second half of 2023, 23 corporate research institutes in the manufacturing sector and 12 in the service sector, leading core technology development and technology commercialization, were designated.
Among the 35 selected excellent corporate research institutes, the research institutes of Sungwoo Hitech, Jostem, and Inox Advanced Materials were recognized for their potential to grow into world-class corporate research institutes and were pilot-designated as the best corporate research institutes (K-HERO).
Designated excellent corporate research institutes receive incentives such as certificates and plaques, recommendations for military service exceptions, preferential participation in national R&D projects, and government awards.
