The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries will conduct intensive safety inspections of fishing boats starting from the 29th in preparation for the Lunar New Year holiday.
The Ministry announced on the 28th that from the 29th of this month to the 16th of next month, it will carry out safety inspections of fishing boats across 11 cities and provinces nationwide in cooperation with local governments, the Korea Coast Guard, and the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority.
Fishing boats are required to undergo safety inspections upon registration and are subject to at least one annual entry inspection to prevent safety accidents. However, during periods of rapidly increasing users, extra caution is necessary to prevent accidents.
In particular, the Lunar New Year holiday period sees about a 1.4-fold increase in fishing boat users compared to usual, and this year as well, the number of users is expected to rise due to an increase in returning home travelers and tourists.
Accordingly, during this inspection, fishing boats registered in cities, counties, and districts that require focused management will be selected for concentrated checks and guidance on safety equipment, vessel management, entry and exit reporting status, behaviors that hinder safe operation, and crew qualifications.
