Sanae Takaichi, Japan's Minister in charge of Economic Security, reportedly advised Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on the 16th to consider postponing the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo, according to Japanese media.
On the 28th, the Yomiuri Shimbun and others reported that Minister Takaichi revealed this information at a meeting held the previous day in Nagano City.
At that time, she reportedly mentioned to Prime Minister Kishida that there is a shortage of labor and materials needed to respond to the Noto Peninsula earthquake damage, and voices from the construction industry are calling for the Expo to be postponed.
Kyodo News described it as "unusual for a sitting minister to mention postponing the Expo," and predicted that it could become a contentious issue in the regular Diet session that opened on the 26th.
