Comprehensive Efforts to Strengthen Market Competitiveness with Various Customized Support for Traditional Markets

On the 26th, Lee Kang-deok, Mayor of Pohang, attended the New Year's meeting of the Pohang Traditional Market Merchants Association to encourage the merchants and listen to their voices on revitalizing traditional markets.

Hosted by the Pohang Traditional Market Merchants Association, the event was held at the Merchants Association office within Jukdo Market, with about 50 attendees including Mayor Lee Kang-deok and members of the association.


At the event, Mayor Lee participated in the plaque unveiling ceremony for the newly established Merchants Association office and awarded plaques of appreciation to merchants who contributed to the revitalization of traditional markets over the past year.


Additionally, members of the Pohang Traditional Market Merchants Association collected donations through a community effort to deliver goods to neighbors in need, and exchanged various opinions by discussing development plans for local traditional markets during a roundtable meeting.


Heo Chang-ho, President of the Traditional Market Merchants Association, stated, “We will promote various exchanges and joint projects to revitalize the commercial districts of traditional markets and create a new win-win model for traditional markets. Although the economy is difficult, merchants will pay more attention to kindness and cleanliness so that many people can visit traditional markets.”


Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, “We will strengthen the self-sustainability of traditional markets with differentiated strategies that leverage local characteristics. We will focus administrative efforts on preparing various policies such as facility modernization and parking environment improvement to revitalize traditional markets and revive the local economy while listening closely to voices from the field.”


Pohang City has been promoting various projects such as facility modernization, parking environment improvement, and facility environment enhancement to revitalize traditional markets.


In particular, this year, the plan is to strengthen market competitiveness through customized support including ▲ improvement of public restrooms in Jukdo Market and three other markets ▲ installation of arcades in Jukdo Fish Market and five other markets ▲ fostering specialized markets in Guryongpo Market and three other markets ▲ conducting feasibility studies for the construction of the ‘Jukdo Market Global Welcome Center’ ▲ market management package projects ▲ and support projects for happiness management managers.
