Ahead of the U.S. presidential election this November, former President Donald Trump once again criticized President Joe Biden's immigration policy.
On the 27th (local time), former President Trump stated on social media, "Last year, we faced 302,000 new immigrants. A record high." He added, "Our border has become a weapon of mass destruction that is destroying us." He further criticized, saying, "What was once the best border in history has become the worst border in history," and "All of this happened in just three years." Earlier, during a campaign rally in New Hampshire last month, he said immigrants "pollute the blood of our country."
President Biden halted the border wall construction initiated by the Trump administration shortly after taking office in 2021 and implemented a relatively lenient immigration policy. Former President Trump is appealing to his supporters by putting immigration policy issues at the forefront. President Biden issued a statement the day before urging bipartisan passage of a border bill currently under negotiation in the Senate. The key point of the bill is to grant the president emergency authority to close the border and send back refugees when too many flood into the United States. President Biden said, "It would give me, as president, new emergency authority to close the border when it is overwhelmed," and added, "If such authority is granted, I will use it on the day I sign the bill into law."
