The second phase extension project of the Donghae Line in Uljin-gun, which connects the midpoints of Samcheok and Pohang, is nearing completion.

According to Gyeongbuk Province last November, the Korea Rail Network Authority is investing 186.6 billion KRW this year in the second phase section of the Donghae Jungbu Line between Yeongdeok and Samcheok, aiming for completion by December 2024.

The Donghae Jungbu Line is a single-track non-electrified railway project extending a total of 166.3 km from Pohang, Gyeongbuk to Samcheok, Gangwon Province. The first phase section from Pohang to Yeongdeok was opened on January 26, 2018, and diesel trains are currently operating.

This time, the Donghae Line extension project is also being promoted as an electrification project simultaneously. It involves electrifying the entire Donghae Jungbu Line, including the existing Donghae to Samcheok section (6.5 km) and the under-construction section (166.3 km), totaling 172.8 km. Construction began in December 2020, and system and communication works are currently underway. Once fully opened, travel time will be reduced to 54 minutes.

Additionally, Uljin-gun is attracting attention with various development benefits such as the Hupo Marina Port Development Project, a nationally supported hub-type marina port development to become a center for marine tourism, the Hupo Marine Fisheries Complex Center, and the attraction of the Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex.

In this context, Uljin Hupo’s ‘Ocean The Castle’ is scheduled to be supplied in February in the Geumeum-ri area of Hupo-myeon, Uljin-gun, identified as a key hinterland for various development benefits. It will be developed with two buildings ranging from one basement floor to 29 floors above ground, totaling 123 households, and at 29 floors, it will be the tallest building in Uljin, offering panoramic ocean views to all units.

‘Ocean The Castle’ also holds promising future value. Along with the Donghae Line (scheduled to open in December 2024), the Hupo Marina Port Development, Hupo Marine Fisheries Complex Center, and the attraction of the Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex are underway, which are expected to bring benefits. In particular, these projects are anticipated to expand high-income job opportunities, realize a self-sufficient city, revitalize the local economy, and increase hinterland demand.

Especially, the Nuclear Hydrogen Industrial Complex is expected to have an economic ripple effect of approximately 7.1 trillion KRW. Upon the opening of the Donghae Line in December 2024, it will take only five stops from the complex to reach the Nuclear Hydrogen Industrial Complex, making it highly praised for its proximity between residence and workplace.

The complex also offers excellent living conditions. Nearby are Hanaro Mart, the township office, and Hupo Public Market, and Hupo Beach is accessible on foot. Within walking distance are Hupo Elementary, Hupo Middle, and Hupo High Schools, securing a one-stop school zone, and the nearby Samyul-ri academy district fosters an excellent academic atmosphere for children.

Furthermore, the complex features high-end interiors and finishes such as Kangmaru flooring, island-style dining tables, and system furniture. It incorporates specialized designs for residents’ satisfaction, including wind tunnel testing, seismic design capable of resisting seismic intensity 7, and soundproofing materials to reduce inter-floor noise, minimizing noise issues.

The model house for Uljin Hupo ‘Ocean The Castle’ will be located in the Samyul-ri area of Hupo-myeon, Uljin-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and is scheduled to open in February.
