President Yoon Suk-yeol said that "terrorism against politicians, who are representatives of the people, is no different from terrorism against the people," regarding the attack on People Power Party lawmaker Bae Hyun-jin, the presidential office announced on the 26th.
A presidential office official stated, "President Yoon conveyed a message expressing hope for a speedy recovery, acknowledging that Lawmaker Bae must have been very shocked."
Han Oh-seop, Senior Secretary for Political Affairs at the presidential office, visited Soonchunhyang University Seoul Hospital, where Lawmaker Bae is hospitalized, in the morning and shared President Yoon's remarks.
Han said, "President Yoon was very shocked upon hearing the news of the attack yesterday and immediately called Lawmaker Bae to offer words of comfort."
Regarding measures against terrorism targeting politicians, Han said, "When Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, was attacked previously, relevant departments devised countermeasures and strengthened security. If there is anything additional to be done, we will look into it."
