Yoon's Mentor Shin Pyeong: "Yoon-Han Conflict, a Kind of Palace Coup"

"Yoon's Enthusiastic Supporters Mostly Shift to Korean Side"
"Consideration of Joint Emergency Committee Chair and Election Committee Chair"

Shin Pyeong, a lawyer known as President Yoon Seok-yeol's mentor, interpreted the recent conflict between President Yoon and Han Dong-hoon, the Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, on the 26th as "a kind of palace coup."

On that day, Shin appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' and said, "At present, it seems that the support base of President Yoon, the enthusiastic activists, have mostly shifted to Chairman Han's side." He added, "In that sense, this is not a simple conflict but appears to be a situation where forces centered around Chairman Han are undergoing a palace coup," explaining, "It is a scene where, within the same power base, one person or power holder is being replaced by another power holder."

He continued, "Although it cannot yet be considered successful, I believe it is progressing to a considerable extent," adding, "In history, when Sima Yi overthrew the Wei Kingdom and laid the foundation for the Jin Dynasty, his actions, or when Yin Piao opposed Mao Zedong hoping to become the new power holder, are typical examples of palace coups." He then noted, "Whether Chairman Han's differentiation efforts will become like Sima Yi or end like Yin Piao remains to be seen."

When asked if he still believes Chairman Han should voluntarily resign, he replied, "My opinion has not changed." He explained, "Since Chairman Han's ability to expand toward the center is very weak, I suggested that it would be desirable for someone with greater centrist appeal to come as a co-chairman of the Emergency Response Committee or take charge of the Central Election Committee to compensate for Chairman Han's shortcomings and successfully lead the general election."
