This business agreement was established to ensure the successful promotion of the Education Development Special Zone pilot project through close cooperation and communication between Gumi City, Gyeongbuk Province, and the Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Education.

The Education Development Special Zone aims to innovate local education by fostering cooperation among regional educational stakeholders, enabling access to high-quality education even in provincial areas, and creating a sustainable educational ecosystem from talent development to settlement.

Gumi City is accelerating preparations for the pilot area application of the Education Development Special Zone with goals including ▲strengthening childcare support to create a city favorable for raising children ▲expanding demand-oriented educational support through public education innovation ▲establishing a regional talent ecosystem by nurturing talent tailored to local specialized industries.

Additionally, the city plans to ▲strengthen a region-centered cooperative system by establishing a ‘public pathway’ for local companies to participate as educational stakeholders ▲expand educational autonomy through a systematic collaboration system among local governments, education offices, universities, and companies ▲promote public education innovation by developing an ‘education brand’ that reflects regional characteristics.

Mayor Kim Jang-ho stated, “We will devote all efforts to the designation of the Education Development Special Zone pilot area to enhance citizens’ residential satisfaction and regional educational capacity, ensuring that high-quality education is accessible from early childhood through elementary, middle, high school, and university levels even in provincial areas.”
