A man suspected of attempting to break into the New York home of American pop star Taylor Swift (35) was arrested by the police.
On the 21st (local time), the New York Post and others reported, citing witnesses, that a man tried to break into Swift's townhouse located in Tribeca, Manhattan, New York, on the afternoon of the 20th but failed and was then caught by the police. In this regard, the New York Police Department stated that they arrested a man who tried to open the door of a building on the street where Swift's house is located. However, it was not disclosed whether this man attempted to break into Swift's home. The police added that this man already had an outstanding warrant issued in 2017 for failing to appear in court.
According to the Associated Press, Swift had left for Buffalo, New York, where her boyfriend Travis Kelce, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs in the National Football League (NFL), had a game, and it is unknown whether she was at home at the time of the incident.
This is not the first time Swift has been a victim of stalking. In June last year, Mitchell Tavel (37) was incarcerated in a county jail on charges of stalking, threatening, invading privacy, and harassing Swift. From March to May last year, he sent threatening messages not only to Swift but also to her team and management. According to a statement submitted to the High Court, he sent a voice message via social media to Swift saying, "If I can't be with my soulmate (Taylor Swift), I am willing to set off a bomb."
Meanwhile, since debuting in 2006, Swift has been steadily active for over 20 years, sweeping major awards such as the Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and American Music Awards, establishing herself as a global singer. Especially, Swift's ongoing tour "Eras Tour," which started last year, is gaining tremendous popularity in the United States and South America. In the U.S., every city where Swift holds a concert experiences a huge economic impact, leading to the creation of the new term "Swiftnomics." This term is a combination of "Taylor Swift" and "Economics," and is also called "Taylornomics."
