hy's stomach health fermented milk 'Helicobacter Project Will' (hereinafter Will) announced on the 22nd that its cumulative sales have surpassed 5 billion units.
Will is a long-standing product launched by hy in 2000, marking its 24th anniversary this year. It is hy's flagship functional fermented milk brand with annual sales reaching 330 billion KRW. As of last year, its cumulative sales exceeded 6 trillion KRW.
At the time of Will's launch, the domestic fermented milk market was mainly focused on intestinal health products. hy concentrated on technology development to break the perception that "fermented milk is only good for the intestines." hy researchers focused on finding the strains that best fit the product's functionality from 217 initially selected strains. After five years of research, two types of lactic acid bacteria were selected and finally applied. The two strains applied at that time were "Korean-type lactic acid bacteria" extracted from Korean feces.
hy increased the milk content compared to its own fermented milk and increased the volume to meet customer needs for premium fermented milk. As a result, Will expanded the fermented milk product category to include stomach health, creating new demand. Within two months of its launch, it achieved an average daily sales volume of 300,000 units, broadening the base of functional fermented milk.
Will has continuously renewed to meet changing customer needs, undergoing a total of 10 product improvements to date. In 2010, the lineup was expanded with a low-fat product, and for the core ingredient, the lactic acid bacteria, hy's patented strain 'HP7' is currently applied. Last year, functionality was enhanced by adding 'Kkujippong leaf extract,' a self-developed individually recognized ingredient.
Kim Il-gon, head of hy's dairy product CM team, said, “The product 'Helicobacter Project Will,' launched in the Year of the Dragon 2000, is now entering its third Year of the Dragon. Having been loved for 24 years, we will continue our reputation as the 'representative fermented milk for stomach health' through continuous research and dedication to making good products.”
