The Busan City Audit Committee will launch an intensive special inspection by April 9 to maintain strict election neutrality among public officials and establish public service discipline ahead of the Lunar New Year and the 22nd National Assembly elections.
A joint inspection team comprising the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the City Audit Committee will be formed, and phased inspections will begin targeting the city headquarters, affiliated agencies, business offices, 16 districts and counties, and subordinate organizations.
In particular, inspections will be conducted in phases according to the election schedule on acts that undermine the political neutrality of public officials, violations of duty, and conduct that damages dignity, among other lapses in public service discipline.
Additionally, corruption such as bribery taking advantage of the holiday and election atmosphere, lapses in public service discipline, and passive or habitual work practices that infringe on citizens' rights will be a focus of the inspections.
The city plans to respond strictly, including requesting investigations by prosecutors and police, if clear violations such as election interference are detected to eradicate and prevent misconduct.
Han Sang-woo, Chairman of the City Audit Committee, stated, “During periods when public officials’ discipline may weaken, such as the Lunar New Year and general elections, we will focus inspections on election law violations and public service misconduct to establish public service discipline and contribute to fair elections.”
