Kim Jaerok Appointed as Next President of the Korea Institute of Registered Architects

Elected with 41.25% of the Vote
Term from March to February 2027

Kim Jaerok, CEO of Cheonggu Architects Office, was elected as the next president of the Korea Institute of Registered Architects.


According to the association on the 19th, the 34th president election of the Korea Institute of Registered Architects was held over two days from the 17th to the 18th through an online vote for registered architects nationwide. Out of 16,137 total eligible voters, 13,950 participated, marking a record-high turnout rate of 86.45%.


Kim was elected with 5,755 votes (41.25%), narrowly defeating his competitor, candidate Seok Jeonghun, who received 5,316 votes (38.11%), by a margin of 439 votes (3.15%). Candidate Seok, the 33rd president of the institute, was attempting to become the first president to serve three consecutive terms.


Born in 1959, Kim graduated from Konkuk University with a degree in Architectural Engineering and currently serves as CEO of Cheonggu Architects Office. He has previously held positions such as president of the Seoul Metropolitan Architects Association, vice president of the Korea Institute of Registered Architects, chairman of the Architects Registration Committee, and director of external cooperation for the Korea Institute of Registered Architects.


Kim’s campaign pledges included △ a single three-year presidential term △ establishment of private sector fee standards and expansion of professional scope △ expansion and normalization of architects’ professional domains △ honest management adhering to principles.


He stated, "I will make the association a place where 'members’ voices become policies' by implementing and taking responsibility for policies decided by the members’ voices."


Kim will assume office in March and serve as president of the Korea Institute of Registered Architects for three years until February 2027.
