The Presidential Office held a security situation review meeting on the 14th in response to North Korea's missile provocation.

A Presidential Office official explained in the afternoon, "A security situation review meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Jang Ho-jin, Director of the National Security Office, to check the response posture following North Korea's ballistic missile launch."

Earlier, the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that North Korea detected one missile, presumed to be a medium-range ballistic missile (IRBM), launched from the Pyongyang area toward the East Sea at around 2:55 p.m. on the same day.

This is the first time North Korea has conducted a ballistic missile provocation this year. It has been 27 days since the intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launch on December 18 last year.

Military authorities are keeping open the possibility that this was a test launch of a new solid-fuel IRBM, which North Korea announced had achieved success in an engine test last November, and are analyzing detailed specifications in cooperation with the United States and Japan.
